When a Grant Opens Doors: Knowledge, Tools and Networks for Investigative Journalism

I used the grant to fund part of my participation in the Global Investigative Journalism Conference, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in November 2025.

The conference was organised by the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) and brought together more than 1,500 investigative journalists from around the world. The programme included approximately 150 presentations, workshops and panel discussions.

Attending the conference supported my professional development, as it showcased the latest tools in investigative journalism, with a particular focus on AI-based software. Some of these AI-powered tools are such that, without them, large-scale investigative reporting projects would simply not be possible. The event also offered excellent opportunities for international networking, with investigative journalists from 135 countries in attendance.

In addition, the conference helped in selecting speakers for the Finnish non-profit Tutki! (Investigate!) conference, which will next be held in Helsinki in spring 2027. The Tutki! conferences promote fact-based, pluralistic and responsible journalism across all Finnish media.
