I am a journalist, journalism educator, and researcher. I work at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences as a Degree Director and chair the European Journalism Training Association (EJTA). I am currently pursuing a doctoral dissertation in the Education and Society program at Tampere University, focusing on professional competence in journalism.
My name is Hanna Listenmaa, and I am a trained lawyer. I work as a lawyer at Facta Attorneys, where I assist higher education institutions, research organisations, and companies with contractual matters, IPR, and commercialisation related to research and education. Prior to this, I worked for just over three years at KPMG and for 15 years as a lawyer in research and innovation services at Tampere University of Technology and later at Tampere University.
In my free time, I am often found chauffeuring my children to their hobbies, out on a running trail with our dog, or at our summer cottage – either in Teisko or in the peaceful surroundings of Lapland, both of which I value greatly.
I am in my forties, Editor-in-Chief of Uusi Juttu, and Docent of Journalism. Some may know me from Yle, where I spent more than a decade in radio, television, and podcasting. Alongside journalism, I have conducted research and co-authored five nonfiction books. Among them, Totuuden jälkeen (2018) and Portinvartijat (2023) explore the transformation of the media landscape in recent decades.
I have a background in journalism, having worked in Finnish media houses from reporter to content manager and supporting editorial organizations in developing their work processes. In my current role at Yle, I follow not only the evolution of journalism but also how societal changes, platform companies, device manufacturers, and artificial intelligence are reshaping media consumption, expectations, and the domestic media market.
I am a founding partner of IPR.VC, a media content venture capital firm. Aged 56, I divide my time between Helsinki and Kuhmoinen. In the Åkerlund Media Foundation, I serve on the Board and the Investment Committee. Earlier in my career, I worked as a journalist, consultant, writer, and creative director in digital media, marketing, and television production.
I’m the Executive Director of the C. V. Åkerlund Media Foundation and a doctor of Business Administration. I’ve always worked where education, business, and culture meet. I believe in building the future together – with curiosity, responsibility, and a human touch. When I’m off duty, I love hiking, theatre nights, and getting lost in books.
